It would be interesting to know what are the policies when you get a new iPhone device. Is it same like with standalone PNDs where the app basically is tied to the original device or they follow the Apple rule where songs and apps easily can be migrated from one registered device to the other?

All (I believe) current iPhone Nav app companies are suspiciously mum about this as well as about map upgrade policies. In general I noticed iPhone related pages on their web sites are laughable in terms of lack of information compared to same company's other platforms. And that even for apps like Navigon which already offer iPhone app for quite some time. G-Maps site is somewhat better but even they totally skip issues of device migration and map updates. What's your take on this, are they waiting for each other to create a precedent and see what's the reaction?

by selling through the appstore they are agreeing to apples terms of sale etc. i would assume (but have no evidence/proof) that apps purchased through the appstore can be transferred to new devices exactly the same as music/video etc can be.

if a company does not want to allow this then the choice is simple: don;t sell through the appstore! that's my take on it anyway.

Indeed, the app is tied to your iTunes Account and so you can install on any number of devices linked to that account.

I'm not sure if there is an upper limit on the number of devices other than the 5 computers.
