|
|
Hot on the heels of the news that CoPilot has now been launched for iPhone comes our review of CoPilot 8 Live for Android handsets.
This review by Jason Gaunt, a PocketGPSWorld reader and avid Android user covers the installation and operation of CoPilot. With new Android handsets such as the HTC Hero aka T-Mobile G2 Touch now hitting the stores, ALK's CoPilot now brings a premium navigation solution to the platform.
We have reviewed CoPilot's various products many times in the past in the past for the smartphone platform, as well as numerous other products released by ALK Technologies (The company behind CoPilot), here follows a review of their latest offering, CoPilot Live for Android. _________________ Darren Griffin

Thanks Jason for an informative review. One question: how did you secure your Android unit (Hero or Magic?) to dashboard or did you not perhaps do so?

FWIW, I use a £10 sucker mount from Halfords to hold my G1 to the dash, with a 12V charger hard wired into the ignition system. Works well enough, but the CP8 on the G1 certainly works better in portrait mode. |

Brodit and Carcomm both have cradles for the HTC Hero. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yeah, I got that update, but it hasn't fixed any of the safety cam issues. I may try it again in landscape mode to see if that's improved at all. |

As far as I know it fixed an issue on HTC Hero where it would hang on exiting the application. _________________ Paul

What issues are you experiencing? |
1. Some cameras don't display, but I do get the audio warnings
2. 'Missing' cameras sometimes do show if I switch to portrait mode
3. Some cameras give multiple (3-7) warnings
4. I pass two cameras on one stretch of road. In landscape, neither display but in portrait they both show. As I get closer to them, the one furthest away vanishes, but gives me 4 audio warnings as I pass it.
There are some other usability grizzles, but I can cope with them for now. |
