|
|
Hardware: Tom Tom 2.00 (323), Tom Tom mouse (not bluetooth) Ipaq 3970.
While driving down from Scotland yesterday after working normally for about 30 mins, my setup lost satellite fix.
Examining the GPS data, the unit could see at least 6 satellites at all times, the satellite clock was running (1st June 2003 and 1 hour slow, but running all the same).
Despite being able to see up to 9 satellites all remained grey and the mouse refused to lock on (light blinking red) for the remainder (about 2.5 hours) of the journey. I was therefore not getting GPS data through to Tom Tom.
While tinkering with the IPAQ, I reset the GPS source to NMEA 0183v2 4800 this showed the same greyed out signal feed, resetting back to Tom Tom on com 1 had no effect.
I tried several soft resets, and self tested the Ipaq to no avail.
Any ideas?????????? |

try it again, with the receiver in plain sky sight (outside of the car). Set your GPS to COM1, NMEA 4800 (as you did once)
(You seem to have a pretty old version of TomTom. You should at least have 2.24 and the GPS version 2.07) _________________ Lutz

Barney,
Have you tried TTNav 2.24?
That was/is a very stable version and can be download from here
Which GPS Driver are you using? 2.07 is also pretty stable and can be found in the PocketGPS World download page.

I'll let you know the outcome.

System working after installation of new GPS driver and Tom Tom update as suggested.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!
One further question/comment, I now seem to be locking onto fewer satellites than before, and the satellite lock is lost very easily (like goung under bridges etc) has anyone else experirnced this??
I'm beginning to suspect a hardware (GPS receiver) fault.. |

GPS 3.02 is available somewhere on the TomTom Support site - direct links are all but impossible to those pages.
GPS 2.07 is the version you'll find in the download area of this site. it's the last version of TomTom GPS that doesn't include the intrusive driver that can block other Bluetooth applications from using your Bluetooth GPS.
2.09, in particular, is not recommended - it's a stable enough version of TomTom GPS, but it includes not only the interfering driver (as all the 3.xx versions of TomTom GPS do), but it includes the first, rather troubled version of TomTom Wizard.
