|
|
Hello.
Not sure if I'm in the correct place to ask?
Help if someone could?
I have just been given a Tomtom Go 300. It doesn't have a memory card so I have bought one (just a normal 1gb card) not a tomtom one,
It powers up but shows a memory card with a cross through it also the tomtom isn't detected by Tomtom home.
What do I need to do to get it to work? Do I need to download file to the memory card or the on board memory? is so where from?
Thanks John

Hi John, and welcome.
Can you see the Device with Windows Explorer?
Which version of HOME are you using?
When we know the answers to these questions, we can start asking more pertinent questions. _________________ Richard

GO300 is now 4 years old and only works with an SD card. Without it, you've got a paperweight. The only place to get one is from TomTom, phone 0845 161 0009 Mon to Fri, 9am to 6:30pm.
Be prepared to face a grilling - they will most likely think you've stolen it and will not be too willing to help. _________________ Dennis

Sorry, no idea of cost. Original GO300 was about £300 in 2005 I think - that was for the hardware and software. You'd think an SD card would be relatively cheap, but it does make the device workable again and they are very protective of their intellectual property. I don't even know if they'd still have one available after all this time.
In the box (if you got one) there should have been a card about credit card size with a 15 part Product Code number. If you haven't got that, you may be in deeper difficulty, I'm afraid. _________________ Dennis

If you have the software (and that is free), you only have to purchase a Map. I don't see anything illegal with that.

Tomtom home 2 V2.6 | You can download Version 7.162 and then unzip the download. There are 7 files, 1 is a ReadMe.
Copy the other 6 files to the SD Card with Explorer. Try starting the 300 again and tell us how far it gets when booting up. Make sure you use Safely Remove Hardware in the Sys Tray (bottom right of the PC screen), before removing from PC. _________________ Richard

Getting closer
The Tomtom now gets past the memory card screen. The TomTom writing that comes on the screen looks different but anyway it gets past that and get to a screen now that says select map, obviously I have no maps, I need to sort some now.
There is one big issue, the screen is now upside down???? |

Have a run through the menus and preferences. One of the options is to turn the screen upside down! Tap the button and it will be fine.
I think the option was there for lorry drivers who wanted to mount the GO above the windscreen. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Can't get into the menu's without the maps?
No point now think I know why I got it for free, it's stopped working. It comes up with the green light while being powered up but the unit doesn't work, nothing comes on the screen.
Any one know how to fix this sort of problem? is there a common issue for this kind of fault? Is there something inside that just needs changing?
Think I'll just save for a new un.
Thanks for everyones input. |
