|
|
On Saturday, I tested the 730 using the line-out to play my music in the car. Worked fine.
Today, I came to do it again - and nothing. It carried on happily playing through the internal speaker even though the setting was set correctly.
So, do I have a hardware bug here? Does TomTom check that the line-out is working OK and something is plugged in before it switches?
cheers

Try switching the setting bacl to Internal Speaker and then back to Line Out. Make sure you save the change each time. |

I've tried both of those things. No change.
For a short while it did work on one speaker in the car, then I touched the cable and it went back to the internal port.

Faulty cable? Try a set of headphones with the volume turned down at first... |

Yes, that's the next step. I did try it in the car quickly, but I was in a service station and needed to get going. So, tonight that is what I will do

OK just tried it with my headphones. No sound unless I push the jack plug sideways once it is plugged in. Then I get sound out of the left earpiece only.
So, I think the socket is damaged - and it's going back at the weekend (I'm away all week - boo hoo)

If I remember, according to the manual, when you have it set for external output, you're supposed to get visual confirmation on the screen when you're doing speaker preferences. Do you see this? _________________ David |

That won't help... TomTom's latest software "improvements" have bypassed the volume control on the line out (the same with the FM output too) |

Ah. I just recommended turning the volume down in case it deafened him... |

No, I've not noticed that. And it plays happily on the internal speaker, even when set to "line out" on the settings.

Which makes me think the socket in the device is shot, it contains a switch that makes the device use the internal speaker unless a plug is inserted to the line out socket with preferences set to Line-Out - Mike |

Exact same issue as a member at TomTomForums was/is having. Thread started out on a different issue here but turned into posts about the same problem. _________________ David |

Took it back to Halfords in Bracknell today. They were very good and after testing it themselves, swapped it out for another one - even though I only had a copy of the receipt and no box.
New one seems to work fine (so far)
