|

Hi
Has anyone else spotted a TeleAtlas car in their area? Down here on the South Coast (Emsworth) I recently saw a car, clearly marked as TeleAtlas, turning round outside my local pub. Unfortunately it had gone by the time I got outside to look at it more closely but it appeared to have several cameras on its roof. Not so elaborate as the Google Street View vehicle that I also saw in the area recently but similar.
Does anyone know whether this is just the normal way TeleAtlas collect info/correct their maps or could it be that they are collecting video footage to use in the same way as Google? With the TeleAtlas connection with TomTom could this mean we might be getting actual street views on our TomToms soon?
Any comments would be of interest thanks! _________________ Julian

Have you seen the article and video "Discover how the Tele Atlas digital maps are created" here? _________________ Anita

Anita
Thanks for the link - very interesting as I have a similar (but less sophisticated) van which I use for static data collection at roundabouts etc.
The vehicle I saw the other day was based on a car - but I guess the computers etc have become much more compact over the last couple of years!
Thanks again,

They use a mix. The motorhomes are used when they send out a team to collate data where they may be away for a few days, they actually sleep in the vans. They also use small people carrier sized data collection cars as well. _________________ Darren Griffin |
