Hi all I've got a TT530 with app version 8.302 and map version 810.1870.
I have only just noticed today that there seems to be a problem when viewing my mobile phone book through the tom tom.
a) only the actual numbers are appearing - no names
b) not all my contacts are appearing - at present only 2 are showing up
I have tried to remove my phone from the bluetooth device list and remove all phone book entries and then re-establish the connection and go through the setup procedure etc and transfer all phone book from scratch but that doesn't work.
The unusual thing is that when I first got the 530 and did the same procedure, everything worked fine and all names appeared as names including a complete list. Since then I have performed several application and map updates but I'm not sure at what point the function has gone wrong to try and trace back.
I did do a quick search for the problem and came across a post relating to a 920 system where only the numbers were being shown.
Has anybody experienced this / come across it themselves?
thanks in advance,
Michael |

Hi, no its a samsung G600 - checked on the tom tom compatibility list and its fully supported for phone book transfer etc as it did work to start off with.
It was working initially but I've not actually tried since each subsequent update to focus in on what could have gone wrong.
The related issue I saw is http://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom-go-920-920t-930-930t/12644-trouble-phone-book-transfer.html
At present I've only got 2 contacts coming up...before that when I was messing around I did have a lot more but just all in number format. |

Yes it's a pretty common problem, even for phones that are on the "fully compatible" list. I've had it happen with a Samsung myself, but I've seen lots of other forum posts about it.
The (very long and boring) workaround is to edit the file manually, and there's even a spreadsheet to help you do this in the free downloads link on the left of this window.
Quote: | TomTom Contacts Spreadsheet
A spreadsheet to aid in the creation and import of a telephone contacts list to any TomTom device that supports the hands free bluetooth telephone facility. This is particularly useful where your model of phone does not support the transfer/import of telephone contacts. |
Look under GPS CENTRAL/Free GPS Downloads/GPS Brands/TomTom.
NOTE: Do be aware there is still a mistake in the instructions on that spreadsheet.... It says to "save the edited file into the root directory of your TomTom", but in fact the file should be put into the "contacts" folder, from where you got it from in the first place
Make sure you complain to TomTom about it too, otherwise they will never fix it. |

They've moved the headings round since I wrote that post...
At the top of the page, look under "Free POIs and more" /Free GPS Downloads/GPS Brands/TomTom. |

If someone is sorting the broken link out, can I make a couple of suggestions?
1. Correct the instructions in that spreadsheet as per my post above.
2. When you follow the "Free GPS downloads" link, the section for GPS brands" has just the first three brands listed "Destinator, Emtac, Fortuna" and two of those I've never even heard of!
I think it would be clearer if you either list ALL the brands, or none of them.
(and make the "Click Here for the brands" more obvious (at the moment you don't click "here", you click on the heading ) |
