Leave them alone, Windows tends to report .chk files a errors that need fixing, if you delete the files there is a good chance the device won't boot up at all - Mike

dataxx.chk files (where "xx" is a number) are not obsolete!

I think you ma have read about the old method of getting voice alerts for the speed cameras using a modified "data.chk" file (which is the file that contains all the basic sound effects) - yes, that method is outdated.

However the main NAVIGATION VOICE files are also files with the name dataxx.chk (where "xx" is a number) - you need to keep those!

To confuse matters further, Windows uses the file extension .chk for "recovered file fragments" saved after a crash, but you have to remember the TomTom is not a Windows device, it doesn't necessarily stick to the same file naming conventions as Windows uses and .chk files are important.

I should have also emphasised that you *do* still need the original "data.chk" as that holds all the built-in sound effects.

It's only the method of "tweaking" it to add other sounds that is now outdated, not the file itself. Smile
