LCD screen protector

I've just tried using an LCD protector film for the Active 10. Seemed a good idea, but the cleaning wipe you're asked to use (alcohol based?) has damaged the Active 10 screen cover. Yes, I can replace this, but could do without the expense.

Thanks for the heads up. Can you tell us which one you used so folks know to avoid it. I used Zagg's Invisible Shield, which worked fine.

It was bought from the local camera shop and is labelled 'Kood', but I suspect cleaning wipes from similar products are also alcohol based.

I too used the Zagg, with no problems at all (apart from the previously discussed bubbles etc that took a couple of days to disappear).

I thought about a screen cover for the replaceable screen but was put off by the fact that it may make the display too dim as I already have a Zagg on the inner screen and it was another layer for it to pass through.

On another thread someone else has suggested cleaning the inner screen with Silvo silver polish wadding to get rid of scratches.I tried it on the outer screen and it works very well at getting rid of marks and scratches.It also smartens up the black bits as well.

You need to rub it for about 10mins or so depending of course on how much it is scratched then wash the Silvo off with water.It looks at first as if you have scratched the screen but if you polish it off with some glass cleaner ( eg Windolene ) and buff it up the result was very good.

SILVO wadding may be a bit coarse for what you are trying to do. You can get polishing materials designed for precision optics from specialist outfits. These are used in the polishing of glass to make telecope mirrors for astronomy - a GOOGLE search should find them. They come in a variety of 'fineness'. You could also try the ash from a WOOD burning fire (not coal ash). This is a very fine particle abrasive and should work on very fine scratches. If you can get hold of a cheaply printed newspaper that is still using old fashioned inks (the sort that comes off on your fingers) these really work very well for final polishing/buffing.
