Big in Japan’s ShopSavvy Adds Skyhook Wireless Location Technology
Popular Android personal shopping application integrates reliable advanced hybrid positioning to enhance location performance
BOSTON & DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Skyhook Wireless, provider of the patented Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) and the hybrid location system XPS, and Big in Japan, developer of the ShopSavvy personal shopping assistant for the Android-powered T-Mobile G1 phone, today announced that ShopSavvy has integrated the Skyhook Wireless Android SDK to enhance location performance. Although the Android OS offers a standard positioning system, developers must choose to integrate Skyhook Wireless’ Android SDK to deliver location that works reliably everywhere.
With ShopSavvy, consumers can scan product barcodes using their phone’s built-in camera to search for the best prices online and at nearby stores. The application uses location awareness to facilitate searches of local store inventories for products and prices.
“Comparison shopping at local stores is a core feature of ShopSavvy, and having fast, accurate location results is critical to this,” said Alexander Muse, co-founder of Big in Japan. “The Skyhook Wireless positioning system is the best way to deliver high-quality location service on Android devices.”
“ShopSavvy is a unique application that uses the context of location to improve and add relevancy to local search,” said Kate Imbach, director of marketing at Skyhook Wireless. “For location to truly enhance apps, it must meet consumer standards for reliability. Skyhook Wireless offers the only hybrid positioning system that meets these standards.”
ShopSavvy has hundreds of thousands of users worldwide, and can be downloaded on any Android device today. Existing users must upgrade to ShopSavvy Version 3.3 – Gigan to take advantage of Skyhook Wireless integration. The Gigan release also includes faster barcode scanning, stealth mode, menu shortcut indicator, private mode, and Twitter integration.
Skyhook Wireless offers a publicly available SDK for Android developers at http://www.skyhookwireless.com/developers/sdk.php.
