their blurb states
Map
Custom map from JPG, GIF, PNG and BMP files
Easy map calibration (2 points needed)
So - whatever you can display on your PC can be made into a map.
Would be nice if they woulds support importing of csalibrstion info, but that seems to be missing. _________________ Lutz

You don't need the coordinates. You can go out into the real life and then find one place on the map that you can correlate to reality. Then, go to another area on the map where you can correlate again, and you have two fix points - that's all you need to calibrate the map.
Of course this is assuming that you are using map areas that are small enough so that the earth shape doesn't show too much (it's not flat after all, even though the maps try to make us believe that ;-)
Obviously the further away the calibration points are the more accurate the calibration will be. _________________ Lutz

Help,
I only have 2 weeks experience with all this technology so here goes.
I have just downloaded & paid for GPS Tuner 3.1.
However, it doesn't seem to want to communicate with my GPS device.
My system configuration is Dell Axim X5 with Tom Tom 3 with wired GPS.
The GPS status part of Tom Tom shows it is getting a fix & the Navigator works OK.
Do I need to alter some settings in GPS Tuner?
Any help would be much appreciated. |

You have to exit TomTom completely (not just minimize it) to free up the COM port so the GPS Tuner can have it. If all else fails do a soft reset and then run GPS Tuner. _________________ Lutz

Try www.esri.com or www.expedia.com, I've used maps from expedia and it works fairly good. Remember you must have at list two waypoints and that's all you need in order to use the map. The maps have to be .JPG or .BMP |

I am also new with this PDA GPS stuff and GPS Tuner was one of the first few that I tried. However. I could not get it to display any track on the map. All I got was the pointer and I could put waypoints on a blank map. And sometimes I get a track but it only goes as far as the first way point after that it stops. and no other track lines are continued from there.
Pretty frustrating for an otherwise very user friendly software.
I am having much more luck with VITO's Navigator and Smartmap. |
