At the moment I'm using disposable AA's - power pack on back order - using some new duracells over the last couple of days and today 5 minutes before the end of my ride the unit went into shut down (this also lost the info on the 'trip log' page - is this normal?) anyway, switched it on an hour ago and it's been showing 3 bars on the battery indicator since then, granted it's not doing much other than sitting on my desk but the screen is on and locked into about 8 satelites ... could the cold have affected the batteries, finished my ride about 5pm but wouldn't say it was that cold - southern softie and it's been like spring today, and will the li-po battery be affected in the same way?

Thanks.

All batteries are affected by temperature, an increase by a few degrees will increase the produced voltage available, at the same time a decrease in temperature will lower the available voltage.

Devices that monitor the battery condition tend to only look at the voltage, a small decrease can trigger the shut down system as the device considers the battery depleted when in fact it is suffering due to low temperature.

The LiPol rechargeable pack doesn't seem as affected as the throw away cells, but extreme low temperature will still lower the output voltage - Mike
