|
|
History.
Bought off eBay
Working fine.
Managed to update before via Home no problems.
What's happened.
This update I forgot to untick the update for the latest software, having read on here it was no good.
After update did not see maps.
I had a back up so rolled back through Home restore feature.
Now machine will not boot up or if iut does it stops at the boot screen ( one after tomtom screen with moving line to show reading something) and goes no further.
Have tried the paperclip trick and no joy.
Any ideas or is there someone close to Wakefield in West Yorkshire who could fix it?
Thanks Pete |

The first thing to try is a re-install of the latest update.
Before you do this you need to copy off or delete the 'loose files' in the root folder of the device.
And before that, take a FULL backup using Explorer and save it on your PC somewhere safe.
Now delete the loose files on the device. 'Loose' files are those files that are not folders and are not within folders. DO NOT delete any folders or any files with folders, only those files that are visible when you browse the device using Explorer.
Then connect to HOME and allow it to update again.
If you are unsure, ask before deleting anything. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Can I use my back up (windows explorer) from 6 weeks ago or should I make a new one?
Also do I need to show hidden files etc before backing up using Windows Explorer. |

ALWAYS make sure hidden files/folders are showing when doing an Explorer backup. _________________ David |

OK
Copied all 'Loose' Files into a folder on desktop.
Backing up ALL files folders to another folder on desktop.
So now I have a backup of whats on there currently.
When Explorer backup complete will delete loose files on Tomtom and connect back to home nad see what happens..
Wish me luck... |

Right..
Did as you said and as noted above.
Then deleted the loose files on the Tomtom as suggested.
Then reconnected to HOME and did an update and it wanted to download latest application - did that.
then disconnected and turned off and restatrted and reconnected to HOME. As HOME said it needed to be.
Then HOME said I needed new phone connection thing so downloaded that onto TomTom.
Disconnected Tomtom and it booted to set up for language, righthanded, voice etc. Did all that.
then says......
NO MAPS FOUND....
Back to square one... ????
when turned oof and turned back on goes through start screen to
NO MAPS FOUND.

Not quite. How did you acquire your original backup, via HOME or direct via Explorer? _________________ Darren Griffin |

OK, what we need to do now is compare the contents of your map folder on the device with the contents of both backups.
The HOME backup will be located within the TT HOME folder structure in your 'My Documents'.
You need to establish if the same number of files exist in the backups AND the map folder (Western_Europe?) on your 710.
If there are differences post back. _________________ Darren Griffin |

By way of background, the error you are getting (having eliminated all other possibilities now) is almost certainly because a file is either missing or corrupted in your map folder on the device.
IF we have a full backup of the map folder or can identify which file is missing (and have a backup of it) then we can recover. If we don't then you'd need to buy a new map in order to recover from this issue. _________________ Darren Griffin |
