I have a Garmin c510 Sat Nav which seems to have gone wrong. Kept telling me that I needed a software update, which I duly did - logged onto Garmin website and downloaded the software update, but now I seem to have lost all my maps on the unit and I'm left with the message "no detailed maps found that support routing. The Streetpilot cannot be used without them", which I can't get rid of. Have reset & turned off, but no change. Have looked on the Garmin website, but there's no help except the offer of buying new maps at £79!! (might as well buy a new Sat Nav)
How do I get my maps back onto the GPS unit? Product came with a CD City Navigator NT+ which I have installed on my PC & unlocked maps, but there seems no way to transfer them to the GPS unit (when plugged in with USB)
Longshot: Anyone able to help, before I start looking for another one on Ebay. |

You need to create a GMAPPROM.UNL file in the \Garmin directory on the C510. You need your 25digit unlock code, but without the dashes. Something like: "ABCDE-FEGHI-JKLMN-OPQRS-TUVWX" - enter it as ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWX (using Notepad).
This code is normally on the 'yellow voucher' that accompanies the unit. However in your case, there is the complication in the form of the CD. Does the map version on the unit match the CD? or is it the original that it shipped with?
Is there an unlock code on the CD? - or can you find it in Mapsource? ... or even http://my.garmin.com |

I have the unlock code on the yellow paper which I've used when I installed Mapsource on my PC. However Mapsource doesn't give you the option to download maps to the unit - you can plan out a route, but then you can't download the route. |

It's highly unlikely that you've lost the actual maps - it's probably just lost the unlock code.
There should be a GMAPPROM.IMG (of about 175MB) in the \Garmin directory - these will be the City Navigator maps. If you create the matching GMAPPROM.UNL as detailed above, it should burst back into life. |
