Hi........I'm currently running Igo 8 on my Acer N35 which is rather dated. I'm looking to get a new PND that has Igo 8 on it or a PND that will run Igo 8 , can anybody give me some info ?
Thanks in advance |

some of the binatone pnd's use igo8 but they seem to change software suppliers every year...!
blaupunkt travel pilot, hp travel companion, asus and some clarion devices also use igo8. myguide (rip) used igo but not sure if the devices using igo8 ever actually got released before they went bust. there was also a sony psp version but not sure if it ever actually got released over here in the uk?
there are probably others but these are the ones that spring to mind.

It seems that UK is not preferred land of iGo8 resellers (too big competition from TomTom?).
In Poland you can find at shops (MEdiaMarkt, Vobis, Saturn etc.) plenty of devices with iGo onboard.
Even some mobile providers (i.e. Orange) had for example Samsung Omnia with iGo fitted in. |

Just to be pedantic, HP Travel Companion uses a version of iGO6, the same as the MioMap 510/710 etc. The maps are of course updated. |

Nope, the ipaq 31x uses a beta version of igo8, R1!
This is why the maps are compatible. |

If you compare the features of the 31x you will find that they are much closer to iGO6 than to iGO8. In particular there are some major drawbacks in the 31x that are the same as iGO6 but I understand are sorted in iGO8.
I have a Mio710 that I bought in May 2006 and an HP314 that I bought last year. They have almost the same software with the same operating faults, just a different name. They also use a very similar map format with just different copy protection. The only real difference is that the HP does not use the speedcam format that Mio used on their units.
I have not used iGO8, but if it is the same as on my two units then it would be very disappointing after 2 years development. |
