It will be 5 hours in factory test conditions.

It's no different to mobile phone makers battery life claims, or car fuel consumption.

The specs are done in a factory under controlled conditions.

They can only be used as a guide to what you get in the real world.

The device is supplied with a car charger lead and is intended to be used with this connected, the fact it has a battery to aid navigation when away from the power source shouldn't be considered as the norm.

If you have to drive vehicles without a charger socket who is supplying them - I will refuse a Hire care if the charger outlet is not fitted or non functional, the hire company doesn't like this, but they are supplying a defective vehicle as far as I am concerned - demand one that works and you often get an upgrade for free - Mike

You might get closer to the five hours if you lower your brightness and also select the "dim screen between instructions" in battery saving options.

Nothing different to many other claims, the reality is often far different to the claims.

If running on internal battery is a necessity, why not consider an external re-chargeable battery pack to supplement it? There are plenty about that will hook up to the miniUSB connector.
