Hi and welcome.
Can you tell us which model you have?
Instructions are here for the Garmins.
However please note the Voice Alerts do not work with some models such as the 2xx series. |

OK. So have you followed the instrcutions?
Where exactly does it go wrong for you?
Which version of the PGPSW Database are you using? Single File, Consoldiated or Speed Zoned?
Which voice would you like to use or do you not have a preference? |

Which ones don't?
Before you upload the files you should have all your files in 3s. A CSV file, a BMP file and an MP3 file with matching names. |

Is it the pMobiles ones?
If there isn't a pMobile MP3 you need to copy the Mobile.mp3 file (right click the file and choose Copy), then right click on a blank space in the directory and choose Paste. You'll have a file called Copy of Mobile.mp3. Right click this file and select Rename. Remove the "Copy of " from the beginning and type a "p" so the file name is pMobile.mp3.
Hit F% at the top of the keyboard and you should now have pMobile.CSV, pMobile.BMP and pMobile.MP3 all together. Now upload the lot again and test.
It that doesn't work or isn't the answer let us know... |

Ah right i didn't realise you had the file in GPX format. That's fine, they don't need to be in CSV format, but how did you get them in GPX format? What options did you choose when you downloaded the files?
The MP3 files are the voice files.
Basically you need to make a directory on your PC which contains the GPX files and their corresponding BMP files.
Then you need to add the mp3 to the directory. When you upload the files with POILoader it matches the MP3 Voice file to the GPX or CSV file with the exact same name. Then when an alert is sounded for a camera in a GPX or CSV file the mp3 is played. All you need to do is make sure the MP3 voice files match to the GPX file you want them to sound for.
It might help if you go back to the beginning and let us know everything you have done so far and what you have downloaded exactly. Also what files you have. |

I saw this thread last night and decided to try out the voice alerts since I also have a nuvi 300. I downloaded Andy's voice and combined the files with the latest speed camera database without any problems.
Tried it out today and everything worked fine, however I would like to know why some cameras just give two warnings which is ideal, but others give up to four warnings which seems a bit of an overkill. A section with specs gave six warnings! |

It might depend on the warning distance you have. The more distance the more warnings. If you are using the database with no alterations Garmins POILoader sets the following distances for alerts...
Quote: | Proximity alert distance calculated by POI Loader based on speed information in the file name or in individual POI names. This calculation uses the following formula:
Prompt Distance = 36 seconds x Speed.
A default proximity alert distance of 400 meters/0.25 miles if the file name contains the word "redlight." |
from POILoader Help File.
SPECS tend to be on faster speed limits so you get more warning...

Thanks for that answer Paul. It makes sense to base the warning distance on speed.
I wondered what the * meant in the formula but presume that it means the prompt distance is 36 seconds at the warning speed.
i.e. at 30mph it would be 528 yds and at 40mph it would be 704 yds etc. |

Sorry the * is a x (multiply) sign. I've corrected it now...
However that just quoted out of the POILoader manual and i've never really looked at it...
How did you get the results of
Quote: | 30mph it would be 528 yds and at 40mph it would be 704 yds etc | ? Maths not my strong point? |

Yep - 30mph=44ft/sec so your maths is correct! Or you could always remember that the camera is 36 seconds away at your current speed! _________________ Phil |

Ah i think i see.... It's all this converting miles into feet into yards......
Quote: | Or you could always remember that the camera is 36 seconds away at your current speed! |
Bingo!!
Or is it 36 seconds if you were travelling at the speed limit? i.e. at twice the speed limit you'd only have 18 seconds warning?
