|
|
Can anyone explain how photos or anything else added to a SD card can be accessed please?
(Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find it!)
Home recognises the card as a separate drive and the content but I can't get the 540 to display pictures from it - although it will show the same jpgs if I also copy them to the photos folder in the internal memory.
However that's no help when I want to take the card out of my camera in order to show the photos on a larger screen.
And how do I un-enable the Safety Lock that currently stops me displaying images as a slideshow?
Thanks.

The photos will be organised differently in the camera, to what the TT requires.
The TT needs them in a Folder named photos which has to be in the root of the Card, or Memory.
The Folder structure on the Card will be the same as it is in Internal Memory.
I didn't know there was a 'Safety Lock' for the Slideshow. I haven't got one. _________________ Richard

Shock, horror!
You mean to say that TT don't include the functionality of a £300 card viewer within the 540?
Thanks everyone.

Revisit Oldboy's post above - have you created a folder called photos on the card and placed your photos in that folder? _________________ Dennis

Thanks Dennis, silly me.
Progress! Now if I can make my camera save to that directory too I'm getting somewhere.
Any thoughts about the safety lock on Slideshow?

Hah!! I've just twigged that what you're trying to do is take the card out of your camera, bung it into the 540 and hey presto! Slideshow.
Maybe your camera has a menu item to set what directory (sorry, Folder - shows my age) to save pictures into. I'm pretty sure my camera doesn't - it's DCIM\100 something or other and I can't see how to change that - I assume it needs that structure to maintain the picture serial numbers. Assuming it's not possible, you're stuck until you can get to a PC to copy/paste pictures into the photos folder.
I haven't got a x40 and don't know what you're talking about with safety lock on Slideshow. It's not something to do with Safety Preferences perhaps? Maybe not allowed to watch whilst driving? _________________ Dennis

Have a look at Mobile Nova from Here as that allows some control and searching through folders to locate files for video and picture playback. This application is a little buggy when installed on the x40 units, but you do get a free trial of the software so at least you can see if it will do what you want.
You can also have video playing while the device is moving so I guess this would overcome the lock function that is there to prevent people from trying to watch pictures etc while driving - get caught by the authorities doing something as dangerous as this and the Police will throw the book at you - it you want it playing pictures for the kids in the back seat fine, but make sure you cannot see the screen from the drivers seat.
Oh and installing this software will give you the mp3 player capability so it does open up a few options on the 540 - Mike |

Dear Santa,
Next Christmas can I have Mike's brain and screwdriver fingers. Please. I'll be really, really good. _________________ Dennis

Fantastic lead, Mike, TYVM!
I'll have play later and see what more I can achieve.
I don't intend to play a slideshow while driving as that seems to negate the whole point of satnav, as well as being dangerous. But I would like to be able to play them when the 540 isn't in the car or to pass the unit to passengers for their amusement while I get on with the driving bit.
Otherwise I'll just upload a few jpgs off the PC in advance as Dennis suggests!

It seems the slideshow facility was being blocked by my original safety preference to 'Hide most menu options while driving'.
I've unchecked that option and it now works!
Now to try to get my camera to talk to the right folder on the SD ... !
