TTone V2 fail at switch-on

My TomTom one V2 has recently developed a weired fault.
It switches on OK when connected to a computer or powered by the cig lighter but the only way to get it to switch, on running on battery power, is to pop out the SD card and re-insert it, the unit will then switch on and run normally, on battery power for approx 2 hours.
Details shown App 7.162 OS:2327 GPS v1.21 Boot 5.0500 Maps UK & Ireland.
Does anybody know what this fault is or know how to correct it or is the unit just on its way out.

Mind you, mine does it only 1 out of every 5 times - annoying when you are on route to somewhere....
