Hi all,

I have a Garmin Legend Etrex which I mainly use with Memory Map for Mountain biking. The problem I have is a lot of the Biking I do is in the woods and I tend to lose signal and orientation frequently. Is that typical? Would my problems be solved with a new generation GPS?

I am considering buying either a Satmap or Garmin Oregon. Would either be better then what I currently have? Does the Oregon have the same chipset (satelite sensitivity) as the Etrex I already have?

Thanks in advance!

Brett

it's not unusual to lose th satellites in heavily wooded areas (also in areas with lots of skyscrapers) a lot depends on the chipset used/ later ones like sirf111 are more sensitive

Can't speak for the units you are looking at but my Garmin Colorado 300 is significantly more sensitive than my older Garmin GPS60. I would expect the Oregon to be similar. However very wet, very leafy forests are a good challenge for any hand held receiver!
