Morning all from a cold but sunny Sunderland

After updating my 510 today I had a few problems, i.e. no sound on the camera warnings. Reading some threads here I went through the warnings and re-enabled them. Now I have the sound back and the nice new warning pics in the top left hand corner.

I also noticed my favourites had disappeared, normally I would just copy the Mapsettings.cfg file from my HTC Tytn II running Nav 6 back onto my 510 but that didn't work this morning?

Are the Mapsettings.cfg files incompatible now meaning I will have to manage favourites on each device seperatly?

Cheers all!
H.

Have a look at the FAQ page which can be found by clicking Here the one you want is #15 - it will recover the situation but it does involve a little messing around - this is why I don't use Favourites, the Custom POI file is far more secure and less prone to disappearing - Mike

Mike, not being clever with this type of thing, I would have thought I could have just copied the new X2 bmp's to my HTC/Nav 6 and they would work, but for some reason they aren't being picked up?

I am not too sure the x2 icons will work with the PDA software, without loading up a map and nav 6 application to one of my PDA's I have no way of testing this - I stopped using the PDA for TomTom software quite some time ago due to the out of date mapping.
Still its something to try later as the weather isn't too clever at the moment - Mike

I also noted that after upgrading my GO920 to 8.3 and upgrading from 720 to 815 maps the mapsettings file appeared to lock up my GO920 Twisted Evil

Luckily I had already converted my favourite locations to POIs, but I had to enter POI spoken word warnings again for the cameras Mad

Don't suppose there is a short cut for this one? Rolling Eyes

These settings are also stored within the Mapettings.cfg file, in fact if you open the MapSettings.cfg file with NotePad you can see the text you entered for the warning.

I very much doubt you can cut/ paste between the old MapSettings file and the new format. Your only option here is to set up the warnings on the device - Mike

Hi Mike
Not long ago it was so simple to reinstall your favourites etc via the cfg file. So, what has changed or more to the point what has Tomtom done to the Mapsettings.cfg. And if they have tinkered, why?
When ever we appear to find away round a problem Tomtom seem to find a way to stump us.

If you add new features, you have to put the settings for them somewhere.

For example, any text to speech voice alerts are now saved in MapSettings.cfg, so if you had a unit without Text to speech voices and tried to copy the .cfg to a new TomTom that had them, not surprisingly there were incompatabilities.
If the new software has some different features, same thing applies.

Hi Andy_P
Ok, I understand.
I think I will now go out and shoot myself.

I started having doubts about compatibility of the MapSettings.cfg file between software versions quite a while ago, so for peace of mind, I always re-create from scratch now. It only takes 5-10 minutes, even redoing the full speed-zoned set of alerts.

I just wish I was a teenager... then I could do it without even looking at the screen like my kids do when texting! Laughing
