It is actually a 6 pole connector, take a closer look at the inside edges of the connector body and you will see two additional copper rings, these are also used for either power or data I cannot remember which to be honest! But I do have the pinout diagram Idrew on the PC somewhere if that is of use.
These connectors are obviously available as some of the third party mount suppliers have been fiting them to their products, but I have yet to see them on sale as individual leads - Mike |

Thanks Mike
You’re quite right; after popping on my glasses I can see a double ringed collar around the 2.5mm jack.
A pin-out of the connector would be really useful
I've got a spare TomTom iPod cable I can cannibalise for the male end; I’ll just need to find the illusive female end _________________ 🔸🔸 Currently using TomTom GO 940 & Locus Map 🔸🔸 |

The RDS-TMC only uses four wires rather than the six connections available, I have no idea if the iPOD cables uses all six or possibly a different four out of the six available, so you could end up scrapping the cable in way of experimentation.
For a socket I would try posting in the for sale/ wanted section of the forum and ask for an x10 droopy mount, there are probably quite a few knocking about in peoples spares boxes, you can simply take it apart and unsolder the connector from the PCB in the scrap mount - Mike |

Could you not just purchase a longer cable on eBay or somewhere? I bought a 1 metre one to connect my TT to the car stereo. Surely that would also work with an iPod. I haven't tried because I have a short cable to connect the iPod to the stereo but my iPod ear pieces work fine when plugged into the TomTom. _________________ TT Go Essential |

But this is to extend the RDS TMC receiver cable which is slightly more complicated due to the odd ball connectors TomTom have decided to use, if anyone knows of an extension cable for the RDS or ipod units I would be very interested as it would reduce all the wires I have strewn about in the car - Mike |

I’ve scoured the web and eBay for a cable, but to no avail _________________ 🔸🔸 Currently using TomTom GO 940 & Locus Map 🔸🔸 |

OK, I've bought a faulty docking shoe and TMC receiver off fleabay
It turns out that the cable on the TMC receiver had as few broken wires where the wire leave the plug.
I’ve successfully peeled the rubber outer off the plug (in one piece!) and trimmed all the epoxy off the back of the plug
Why did TomTom use such a ridiculous connector
There are 6 outputs on the back of the connector so it’s going to be fiddly to solder
Fortunately the TMC antenna only requires 4 of these 6 outputs.
Let's see if I can make my extension cable or I end up killing my Go 910
It's a bit like Blue Peter _________________ 🔸🔸 Currently using TomTom GO 940 & Locus Map 🔸🔸 |
