Just before going on holiday, I bought a TT 730T. Now that I'm back, I checked on latest map guarantee and found I was entitled to a free update. I only have a half meg download speed, so it's taken nearly 5 hours to download, but finally, home says download and installation complete.
When I disconnected my 730 from the PC and went to look at my shiny new map, I get the message NO MAP FOUND. Looking at the 730 with Windows explorer, it's showing only 279 MB of data, with the map folder only containing 55.5MB. (the download was over 1700MB).
Like I have been shouting at all new members, I have a full back-up using Windows Explorer, so I haven't yet shot myself, but can you tell me if the new map is locatable, or have I lost the chance of upgrade to the latest map? |

Have you checked to see if the full map was actually downloaded? Should be in HOME/downloads/map name? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Your new map will be in the download folder on your hard drive. (determined by the Preference setting in Home's software for folder locations).
You can go to Home's Add Maps/Voices icon, should see the map listed with a location of your computer. You should be able to select an install from there.
If that doesn't work, using Home to navigate to Items on My Computer, you should see the map as a row listing (click on the 'more info' link to ensure it is the correct one). Again, you should be able to select 'install' that way. _________________ David |

Yes, it's there as a zip file, together with some other files. If I double click on the folder, it says folder corrupted. |

I've put a 2gb card in the 730 and restored all the files from backup into that, and it seems to be working fine.
The memory card has 1.71GB on it and the internal memory has only 203MB in it. I haven't restored the internal memory yet, in the hope of getting the new map onto it. |

An incomplete download then. I've never used HOME to download a map but would have thought there was some system to re-download if the first attempt failed? Of course this is HOME we're talking about so common sense doesn't necessarily apply _________________ Darren Griffin |

There is if the download is unsuccessful, but you have to start from the beginning, as there is no "resume" function. But in this case, it says the download was successful, so it won't go back. |

You should be able to log into your account at TomTom and click on 'My account' tab. On the right side of the screen should be a listing showing what maps you can download (you have 1 year from purchase to download a map ... repeatedly). You should be able to click on the item in that screen and re-download. _________________ David |

dhn, can you give the precise instructions to get that map list?
I'm sure I've seen it in the past, but I just tried it again myself, and once I've logged in, I have an item labelled "My TomTom" (at top right, next to "log out") but it's not a tab.
If I click on it I get a "My TomTom" page with three sections. On the right is "My Services" and the first sub-section is "My Maps".
Clicking on that for the first time, I got a screen asking if I have already installed Home and after replying yes and on each subsequent occasion, it just starts Home, which is not what we want! |

Hi TomDavison
A few weeks ago I had a problem with my map download and had to appeal for help on this Forum. My broadband connection was even slower than yours and had taken nearly ten hours only to end in failure. I was not pleased. However, advice arrived on the forum and the problem was overcome. If you go to
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=70855&highlight=trevor1234
it may be of help too. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

This is what works for me.
1. Log into TomTom with username/password
2. Click 'Plus Services' menu item at top of screen
3. Observe on right side of next screen a vertical group box with various categories under label of 'My TomTom'
4. One category is 'Maps' and lists my NA 8.10 map with a green dot
5. If I click on the listed NA map link, I see that I can dl until one year after I first purchased)
6. I'm alsp informed that I need TTHome to dl map.
The point is that by doing above, it reaffirms that I have the map and can continue to dl it from tt using Home. _________________ David |

My problem is somewhat different. I haven't bought the new map. I have been trying to get it through the latest map guarantee procedure.
Unfortunately, it said that it had downloaded and installed correctly, but there was no new map on my device, and the old one had been deleted.
I am with talktalk, and so far have expended over 15 hours and 5 separate attempts to download the map, none of which has been complete.
Is there any way of getting the latest map via a hard copy, rather than downloading? I'd happily pay a small fee for the disc, rather than faff around for hours for a free download. |
