Nothing has been announced as yet. Q4 was the last we heard but when in Q4 has yet to be confirmed. _________________ Darren Griffin |

About a month ago now I was asked by TT if I wished to Trial the HD. (I volunteered but unfortunately wasn't accepted - boo! hoo!).
The point being if they are still Trialling it then I would say a release date is nowhere near imminent!

I am assuming that it will go live when the X40 is launched which is supposed to be this year?

They both use/require the same back-end infrastructure so that would make sense. _________________ Darren Griffin |

From what I've read around some of the forums, TomTom reps stated that HD traffic was not going to be offered to the x20/30's. If one of the mods has an inside line, perhaps they could inquire directly. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

News to me, the HD Traffic option was designed primarily for those devices. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Some of you may have seen comment posted on another GPS Website stating that the HD Traffic Receiver had being dropped.
I cannot comment personally until I have clarified the NDA status of discussions we had at our recent meeting with TomTom. I have however contacted TT to seek clarification and as soon as I have had a reply I will if permitted comment on the current situation.
The HD Traffic system is fascinating and the implementation is demonstrably far better than any other attempts to capture traffic patterns and pinpoint issues. We were able to see problems as they began to form with the data sourced from the phone networks and existing HD Traffic units.
We will put together a more detailed write-up on HD Traffic in due course but I thought it more important to clarify this issue first!

I would be very suprised if was dropped as the hardware is already available - in Holland - and it was clearly stated that it would be available for the x30 range (that is why I bought it)
This press release states that it will be available for the X30 and in the UKhttp://www.tomtom.com/news/category.php?ID=4&NID=495&Year=2008&Language=1

To drop HD traffic does not make sense, all the software & hardware is already available this will generate TomTom an ongoing subscription business. I suspect that the delays are due to a change in features, I'm guessing that the NavCore 8.2 will be released for the the current x20 range and along with HD Traffic you'll also be able to pay for the location based services. Turning your x20 device into a x40 device and generating an ongoing revenue stream for TomTom instead of the normal one off hardwrae purchase. |

I have just seen a big TomTom display in my local Currys and one of the things it said was that all TomToms are HD Traffic ready.
So I would be very surprised if it did'nt happen here. _________________ Keith

If/when it is launched you should be able to use Carcomm's latest x20/x30 mount which has a mini-USB pass thru.
Although it is too early to say, it may not even require the HD Receiver be plugged into 12v as it is a powered pass thru socket.
I have one (see here) in my car and can power the later mini-USB RDS-TMC antenna from it whereas if it was deployed as intended it would require 12v power to be connected to it. _________________ Darren Griffin |
