Teletype and Fortuna Clipon dual mode BT?

Will this combo work? I have read "wireless" use requires a serial cable to work. Can anyone confirm this. I'd like to use the TType software, but want to use the dual mode Fortuna BT. I have had the TType BT before and it only lasted 3 hours. That was hardly enough for a short hike.
