I have a TomTom One XL Classic which I have only had for a few days. I noticed from this site that voices can be used instead of the pre-installed beeps etc that come with the machine for safety cameras etc. Can these be used on my machine or only on the 'high class' end of Sat Navs? I am a little afraid to experiment in case I cock the system up. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You can use the spoken alerts on the device, make sure you have made a full backup of the device BEFORE you start and have a read through the various guides for this. The FAQ page is a good starter for ten which contains links to various instruction pages including making a backup and using spoken alerts on the device, click Here for a short cut - Mike |

Just to say... those instructions give details on how to use real voice files for the Speed camera database from THIS site (which uses the standard POI system on the Go). With that, you can have a different warning for every type of camera and every speed.
TomTom's OWN speed camera data uses a different method (set up in the "Plus Services" menu). Although it still gives you a way of using audio files for the warnings (put them in the "sounds" folder), it is nowhere near as flexible as it can be with the PGPSW one. You cannot get individual warnings for each speed limit for example. |

So it's advisable to use the Speed camera database from this site then. I have heard many times how bad the Tom Tom's are.

If the safety cameras are installed from this site do the ones that came with the machine need to be removed? (Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2, Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2 and Safety_Cam_UK_TomTomOv2.ver. Are there others as well?).
Thanks

You can switch them off or remove them, probably easiest just to remove them completely. You can do this manually or within HOME. _________________ Darren Griffin |

OK, thanks for that. I have tried to install them as per instructions but get the same problem as described i.e. 'In addition users of Navcore 7 software should be aware of the following:
There is however a bug within the version 7 software.' My version is 8.010 is this the version it is talking about? If so, does it mean that I cannot use voices?
Thanks again

Nope, that's a bug but it still works as it does on v8. _________________ Darren Griffin |

As has been said earlier, the voice warning are for OUR speed camera database. As you are not yet a subscriber then they will be of little use to you until you are?
They work perfectly well with v8 if you use OUR database. _________________ Darren Griffin |

As has been said earlier, there is nothing to stop you using them for any other purpose (including the TomTom camera database), but I do not know of any way to assign the speed notifications to the TT database, as you can only assign sounds to camera TYPES.
That is why I said the PGPSW database gave you more flexibility. |
