Hi
Can anyone advise if it is possible to transfer the MapSettings.cfg of my 720 onto a shiny new 920 I have been lucky to get.
I have my 720 set up just how i like it and apart from the well known bluetooth & phone problem, it is working perfectly (now rushing out to touchwood!!).
So, if at all possible, I do not want to spend a whole weekend, inputting all my settings and favourites etc
Also, assuming transferring is possible, would it be advisable to copy MapSettings.cfg before or after updating to latest maps?
Thanks for any advice in advance. _________________ Mick

Copying the MapSettings.cfg to a different device is not really recommended, it might work, but there have been problems with POI Warnings and such like when this has been tried before.
What I would suggest is you convert the Favourites to a custom POI file then copy that to the new device, it can save more locations and is more stable - Mike |

Thanks Mike.
I thought it was too hopeful for an easy transfer.
Well cannot compalin, as I picked up genuine 920 at bargain price, so only a small inconveinience.
Oh well, looking forward to the fun of inputting all my camera warnings once more _________________ Mick

Before you go too far try the following (if you haven't as yet)
1/ Perform a FULL Windows Explorer backup to the PC
2/ Download the latest version of Home software for the PC
3/ Update the software on the device to 8,010
4/ Use map guarantee card to update the map to v810
5/ Sit back and put all your settings on the device - Mike |

Mike
Thanks for the advice, it is always worth restating about backups using explorer.
Since joining a year ago, it was first advice I read and boy am I glad I followed that on more than one occasion.
I will attempt the downloads tomorrow after having fun playing with remote control - does anyone actually use theirs in the car, or do they prefer touching the screen?
Just wish I did not have to use GRPS for traffic (Own a Renault so traffic-RDS not so good). _________________ Mick

I would give copying the MapSettings.cfg a go...
It usually only causes problems when you go from one device to a radically different one (eg from a non-TTS model to one with TTS.
I think going from a 520 to a 920 should be fine. Try it and if it doesn't work, you haven't lost anything. |

Hi
Just to let you guys know, copying across MapSettings.cfg from 720 to 920 works accept for voice/warnings for POI's.
For anyone wanting to upgrade to 920 and have a cheap 930 here is what I did:
Full Back before staring - Using Explorer
Using TomTom Home 2.4 - upgraded software to version 8.010.
Attempted to use latest Map Guarantee - Home insisted I had latest map or had to pay (TomTom showing map version v7.10 on 920!)
Contacted TomTom CS - Nice lady said I needed to send device details plus screen shots of TomTom home showing map versions, plus a copy of receipt.
e-mailed copies to TomTom (via website).
90 minutes later - V810.1907 maps (Wetern & Central Europe + North America) show up on TomTom Home. (Great service from TomTom, so give credit where it is due!)
Downloaded maps without problems (took almost 4 hours though).
Made another backup.
copied MapSettings.cfg of 720 to 920
Copied over all Poi's, camera database, sounds, and schemes to 920
Disconected from and let 920 boot up
all favourites where there and pois, sounds and schemes.
Downside, had to set voices and sounds for Poi's and cameras, and set schemes up again.
But all in all everything is working as it should, and now I have a 930 in all but name.
So if you can pick up a cheap x20 unit from authorised dealer, you can have a x30 in all but name.
Thanks for help guys
