new voice

I have just purchased a new homer simpson voice for my garmin. I cannot get thru to the sellers helpline until next week. The voice came in a zip file .vpm and yet when I attempted to open it windows said " It does not recognise the file type and therefore could not open it" It is very frustrating. I attempted to locate some vpm software to help me thru microsoft but they claim they have never heard of any such files. On googling vpm a lot of dodgy looking sites appeared, you know similar to winfix and all those other adware/spyware sites so I have not downloaded from any of them. I am on windows vista home premium. My little daughter sacrificed macdonalds for over a month if I promised her I would buy a Homer voice for the satnav. She kept her side of the bargain; please help me to keep mine.
