UK verses Europe
I have a tomtom 720. Due to any possible memory limitation, can any one say if the detail and information given on the UK map is greater then that shown in the Europe map? |

Generally the roads are the same, but as the larger Europe maps are compressed to fit onto a smaller card, bends in the road are broken down into fewer segments so may look a little more jagged on the screen. Also, there is much less extraneous detail - woodland, expanses of water, etc - on the compressed maps. But from the routing point of view, they are pretty much the same

Are you sure about this? Does the regional maps really contain more map details than the Western Europe map? I haven't noticed this difference, but I haven't examined it carefully either... |

I must admit that I cannot see any difference. If there is a difference I'm sure that it will neither be noticeable or affect the driver. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

The difference is noticeable on the 1GB Europe maps, but less so on the maps which take up almost 2GB. But from the routing point of view they are almost identical

There are different "cuts" of the map data to cater for the different devices with the fixed internal flash memory, not all devices have the option of the external SD card slot for larger maps. These 1GB maps often do have certain non essential detail reduced or removed, in use you still get routed from AtoB down the same roads (IQ Routes excepted - as these map files are larger containing more detail and data). - Mike |
