My 720 has started behaving rather oddly. It will only start if the SD Card is inserted. If you rely soley on the internal memory it freezes with a picture of the device and will go no further.
I suspect a system file on the internal memory is corrupt and thus preventing it booting properly.
If I start the device with the SD card and connect it to the PC the files I can see appear to be those on the SD card and not the internal memory. Is there anyway I can access the internal memory to replace the files having started it with the SD Card? |

Connect the TomTom to the PC and you will see two drive letters appear, one is the TomToms internal storage and will have the red hands logo adjacent to it, the other drive will be the SD card.
Start by copying everything from both the TomTom Flash memory and the SD card to your PC as a windows explorer backup, see FAQ #1 the delete all the loose files in the root of the TomTom flash drive before removing the SD card, connect the device to the PC and fire up TomTom Home on the PC and let it update the device, this will replace the missing corupt files with good data of the latest standard. DO NOT DELETE ANY FOLDERS OR FILES WITHIN FOLDERS - Mike |

Thanks for that.
When I look at the PC I only have the one drive - shown with the Tom Tom logo - but on investigation it is the SD Card. (Proved that by adding a spurious file to the card and it is shown on the PC).
Any other ideas - I am beginning to wonder if perhaps the flash drive has failed altogether - hence why it does not appear. If it had would the Tom Tom even boot as far as the icon screen without the drive working? |

Your problem fixed my problem on the thread below:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=70189
I had the same problem as you with the frozen screen, try this:
Hold the reset key down for 15 seconds.
Leave your device then for around 2 to 3 minutes.
Make sure tom tom home is minimised and connect your device.
Tom tom home should pop up and ask you to select your memory, click internal.
Follow the instructions from my thread above to re-install the GO application.
Worked for me.
