I've searched before stating the obvious but nothing came up.

I was going to put this in the iGO section but assume it works with other software and more people will see it here..

Before I go any further with a 'How to' I thought I'd better check if it's common knowledge and already been done to death. I've only just found out.

So. Has anyone transferred their track logs to view in Google Earth, sat back and watched their tracks?

If you have, how did you do it?

If you haven't, do you want to know?

My son and I use Garmin and Mapspource.
When he travels to Chicago and Germany he downloads his tracks to Mapsource on the PC and saves the track.
He then sends me his Mapsource file and I open it in my MapSource on the PC.
I then go to 'view' in mapsource and the bottom of the drop down box is 'view in Google earth'.

30 seconds later I'm viewing his track in glorious colour!!!!! Very Happy

I'm only experienced with the Garmin and Google Earth

Here are screenshots of a walk I did from LA to UK!!!

Here is one of those 'hated' caravans arriving at a Caravan Site outside Rome!

I attempted the same walk but slipped on the white bit. Had to row the rest of the way. Razz

A mate in Austarlia sent me a track.gpx and told me to drag and drop into Google Earth to see the route and drive over. Then go to Google maps, street view and have a look around. Luckily that part of Oz has been covered by Google.

I've used both programmes but never realised this could be done so simply. I can't wait to do tracklog of my next trip, however short.

By the way, How many seconds interval did you set it to?

Most of my tracks were with a 60csx set to most frequent interval. [I think it was 2 or 3 second interval]

I have a Colorado now set to 'MOST OFTEN'

As all tracks are stored on the SD card, I keep all, as space on the SD card is not an issue.

It would be a nice addition to the website if there was a section where we could post tracks for others to view:-
i.e. how to get to Rome + Sorrento with a caravan etc.

The track of LA to UK is interesting but it missed out my landfall!!! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Use my Garmin to Geocode photos taken during trips which allows me to not only put my tracks in Google Earth but also to see photos taken along the way placed at the point they were taken from.

All clever stuff.
