I use to have a PDA with Navigator 6 on it and this got me into TOMTOM – recently I purchased a GO 520; I am very impressed with graphics and ease of use. However, the postcode information is different on the 520 compared to the Nav 6 – I’m not sure whether it is a configuration issue or that they are different. If I navigate to SL1 4DX using the pda/Nav 6 when I enter SL1 tomtom shows SL10AA Bath Road, SL10AB Bath Road, SL10AD Bath Road etc but the Go 520 only shows SL1, SL0, SL2, SL3. When I enter the last three digits of the post code, 4DX, Nav 6 shows SL14DX Bath Road, SL14D2 Bath Road, SL14EE Bath Road, the Go 520 shows SL1, SL0, SL2, SL3 – not very useful. I was hoping the all in one Go 520 would be at least as good as the Nav 6 software but the post code information/options it provides when entering a postcode is not very useful. Basically the Nav 6 provided details of road names as the postcode is entered but the Go 520 does not. Is the way it works? Hope not as it not very useful compared to the Nav 6. |

Full postcodes SHOULD be available on the 520.
Can you connect your device to your PC and use Windows Explorer to examine the files/folders on it? There should be a folder called "zip" with a number of files within it.
If not, the files can be downloaded from here. Unzip the files and run the postcode installer. |

The Menu Route to the Postcode is now different in the later Versions.
Do you go Navigate to ... | Address | Postcode? _________________ Richard

One of the files you have just installed will be Great_BritainPostal.ver. Open this file using Notepad - I think the latest version should be v701. |

I'm just a beginner so forgive me if the answer to my question is obvious. Does the Go 520 have a 7 digit or 8 digit post code search facility? I'm confused.
Thanks in advance. |

UK postcodes can be 6, 7 or 8 characters long (not sure on the 8) - for example mine is 6 (all excluding the blank space. The TT 520 will recognise, support and find them all. _________________ Peter

TomTom omits the blank space in the middle of the postcode, so it will accept full postcodes of 5, 6 or 7 characters. |

I was having the same problem, recently changed map and the zip folder wasn't there. All I did was put the zip folder from my original backup into my new map folder. It seemed to work as it should, so is this going to work or can you think of any issues doing it this way?
Cheers

The zip folder containing the postcode files should be in the root of the device, if you have put this into the actual map folder then it won't work - Mike |

Oh yeah see what I have written there, cheers Mike. I did put it in the root and it seems to work fine. Was just wondering if there were any issues doing it this way, as opposed to installing it as suggested in a previous post.
I just know with Windows and stuff if you just move a installed application folder around it doesn't always work correctly as there are sometimes things going on behind the scenes that you have no idea about.
