Sorry if there actually is a previous post on this. I've searched but couldn't find anything.

I've just had to rebuild my IPAQ installation - totally flat battery job. Stupid I know but it does happen Sad

I've re-installed TomTom 6 and added the latest speed cam database and the ogg files. But when I go to set up the distances it doesn't recognise that the ogg's are there and offers the bells, cows etc.

Everything was fine before. Any suggestions?

Hi Mate,

With the Ogg files, they dont actually show up as options in the system sounds list, if the ogg files are set correctly then you only input the warning distance and poi warn on route.

Check the ogg files are in the map folder, Not in a sounds folder if using TT6.

Also ensure the name of the ogg matches that of the ov2 file i.e
if the ov2 is called speed_cams.ov2 then the ogg must be called speed_cams.ogg

Hope that helps?

Thanks, but everything is as it should be - except now they don't work. The rebuild was from a Sprite Backup so TomTom was as it was before. The only thing I've done is put the latest camera database on, and I can't see that causing it.

Are you using a human voice for directions? If so you will need to select a computer voice for messages or they won't work.

Jane's a human voice.

When you select it you get the message "You have selected a recorded human voice. Human voices cannot read messages or warnings aloud to you. Would you like to choose a computer voice for reading messages aloud?"

You have to select "Yes" and then select a computer voice for the spoken warnings to sound.

Sorry Anita, perhaps I'm being a bit dim but I don't remember having to that when I first started using the ogg files for camera warnings.

I'm using TT6 on an IPAQ and I just dropped the ogg files into the map directory alongside the PGPSW camera POI's when I first started using them. I certainly don't get any warning about human/computer voices when changing the voice either.

All I've done is do a Sprite restore after the battery went flat and add the latest camera files afterwards.

Computer voice is only needed if you are typing your own warnings and I don't think that's available in TTN6.
I'm afraid everything is NOT as it should be - otherwise it would all work as before. So let's go back to square one.

You restored from Sprite backup, but then you reinstalled TTN6, so it's not restored as it was before.

So now you have to do the cameras and warnings from scratch. Into the map folder (you haven't said which map you're using) go three files for every camera ... (the following is the example for 30mph Gatsos in UK)
1. pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.bmp
2. pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ogg
3. pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ov2
Notice that all three filenames must be identical except for the three different extensions, bmp, ogg and ov2.

Now when you go to Manage POIs, Warn when near, select the first camera and set the distance, then when you are asked if this is the sound you want, answer YES (even though it may well not give a sound) and the warning will automatically select the ogg file warning. You do this for every camera.

Forgive me, I have NOT actually run through the above on my TTN6 this morning, because unfortunately I've done something wicked to my HTC and it refuses to accept my password when I switch on - no doubt I shall now be facing a restore to factory settings and reinstallation of everything in the world. So I have to select a bell, ding, cow whatever but it won't be used? I don't remember having to do that before. Mind you it was some time ago

You should not be presented with the choose sound option assuming the OGG files are placed in the map folder along with the ov2 and bmp files. Something is clearly wrong with the installation of files you are using.

Can you look at the file names very closely using Windows Explorer and make sure for each ov2 file there is an ogg file with the EXACT FILE NAME as this ofen catches people out, the other one to watch for is if you have renamed any files, a double file extension is an easy mistake to make which can mess up the system causing it to behave in the way you describe:

pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ogg is correct
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ogg.ogg is incorrect and won't work.

As for the TTS this is indeed not available on the PDA software, a real shame as it would be a welcome addition, but its not there so you must use the built in sounds or ogg files.

One other thought though, as you have reinstalled from a backup did you ever have a modified data.chk file on the PDA which could have been put back on via Sprite? this was the old way of getting spoken alerts on your TTN software this could be messing up what you are trying to achieve if it is installed. - Mike

NO, YOU DO NOT SELECT ANY SOUND.

After you have set the distance it'll ask if this is the sound you want to use, but it won't make a sound, and you answer YES. I know it sounds daft, but that's the bug at work.

Try this and if it doesn't work for you, come back and say so - I'm only part way through re-installing all my stuff, TTN6 is next and I'll be able to go through my own setup to give you each word by word.

Correction It doesn't ask about the sound.

Simply ....
Change Preferences
Manage POIs
Warn when near
Choose the POI (camera) to warn for and it asks for distance, then you either check or not the Warn only when on route.

If it asks you to choose a sound (Bell, bong, whatever), you have NOT got it right.

I repeat, you MUST have three files in the map folder for each camera type, all with identical names, except ending with the extension .bmp, .ogg and .ov2.

If it hasn't worked, you need to tell us what files you have in the map folder so that we can sort it out.

You can do this using a program called DriveZ.exe which you can download from HERE. You need to double click the DriveZ.exe, then select the map folder, make sure it will show file extensions then copy and paste the details into this thread.

Got it sussed... My failing memory finally kicked in.

The Liz Whittaker ogg files I downloaded are named using upper and lower case, some missing the _ . I remembered having to trawl through and rename them as it appears that the OS on the IPAQ (or TomTom) is case sensitive.

I have renamed the culprit files and all is well now.

I'd obviously done the backup before I made the changes to the oggs. Just done another !!!
