Sorry this is a little vague.

Whilst driving yesterday a message appeared quickly and I didn't catch it all, something about a disk error, and not being able to write to somewhere, like I said I think I only caught the end of it. Also my voices did not work before this, however after this error they started again, also last thing, after getting home, and plugging into PC, Vista wanted to look for disk errors and seemed to fix something.

I am sorry this is all a little vague, but does anyone have any ideas whether this is Hardware or Software, the fact it mentions disk error suggests to me hardware, but has anyone got any help, or any idea what the error actually is

Cheers

Carl

It would help us if we knew which model and software version you are using.

In general, don't let Windows 'fix' anything. TT's use Linux and Linux doen't use the same naming convention as Microsoft, so you might have 'fixed' something that didn't need it.

I do hope you have a Full Backup. Cool

Hi

The most common thing that causes widows to detect disk errors in this type of media is disconnecting whilst the systems is performing a read/write action.

Try to ensure that when disconnecting from your PC you have completed any actions. You should stop the device before disconnecting to be safest.

Was the message anything like this:

If I'm honest, I can't remember exactly what the reason was, but I THINK it was that the 'MapSettings.cfg' file had somehow decided to make itself "read only".

I either just reset that files properties to normal, or maybe I just restored a backup from a few days before.
Been fine ever since. Smile

I have seen this on the 720 and 930 from time to time, I normally delete the MapSettings.cfg file and replace it with another stored on the device or let the device create a new file and simply reconfigure the POI Warnings and Home location from scratch - it doesn't take too long (5 minutes max) - Mike
