|
|
Hi all. Hope you can help me here.
I am trying to backup/copy from my tomtom card. Husband probably backed up before (don't know), but laptop was destroyed owing to a nasty accident with a cup of coffee
Now trying to backup to put onto a bigger card. Given up doing it with Tomtom home, now using Explorer. Have followed directions with viewing hidden files and not hiding extensions
It seems to copy until the last few seconds then get:
Cannot copy replay the parameter is incorrect
Any advice? |

Hi MistyRain
I must admit that I have never seen an error message like yours but I’m sure that all will turn out ok in the end. Are you trying to copy the card while its still in the device or are you using a card reader? Try both for starters. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

I tried connecting the tomtom to the comp, and went through the tomtom hom backup procedure, but got an error message (can't remember what it said). Since then, I've tried on numourous occassions but can't get past the first screen which shows a picture of the back of the tomtom with the wire in it.
Don't get a message that says "do you want to connect with the computer'. Shows there's something connected in Explorer and the files.
So since then, I've been using the card reader. Shows tomtom files okay...and seems happy to copy them, just can't paste them into another folder. I'm really stuck |

Just tried using the tomtom connected to the comp (again). It's stuck on 'please wait' - picture of X over hand - picture of card flashing in bottom lefthandside. I now remember that happening before. Stay on 'wait' forever. |

Misty, you may want to check that the total path length for the destination where you want to copy all the unit's folders/files is NOT over 128 characters in length. In other words, start counting from the c in
c:\folder\folder1\ ... etc. |

Thanks dhn So far I've just copied it (or tried to) to a desktop folder called tom. If I start going through each individual folder in that 'tom' directory, and counting away, it's going to take ages...and even so, the problem shouldn't be there should it. I haven't changed any of the file names. Will do that if it might give me the answer to the problem.
Happy for any suggestions. Cheers[/i] |

Alot of stuff shouldn't happen but does. I'm just saying that if you google the error message you got, you'll see that more than 1 link mentions the issue of path length. |

Can you also say what model and age it is?
TomTom have only recently started using the "copy protect" bit that is available in the SD card specifications, so some recent maps on SD won't copy. |

It's a Tomtom Go. Not sure what age it is, but we got it very soon after it came out. So, if there were other Go models, it's probably one of the early ones.
Still works though, even if I can't back it up. Just would like to add some POI etc so bought a new card...but....sigh |
