Do you want to do this real time and remote from a PC or simply see where and what the car has been doing once it returns from a trip? - Mike |

Real time does add significant cost to the solution but it is possible, you can also get units that will report back their currect location via SMS text message which is far less costly.
The cheapest is to get a datalogging GPS receiver and download the track log data from it when the car returns. Have a look at This Review for one such device - Mike |
