Hi,
WebUpdater is usually safe to do. It'll install the latest updates for you, not just unit software but also voices etc. One thing to note is after the update is downloaded and installed to the unit you'll need to unplug the unit. It'll shut down and restart and it may take some time to start up again. Just leave it.
You need another program called POILoader to load the POIs and, yes, the PGPSW database works well on all Nuvi units. You need to select Garmin POILoader and then i suggest selecting "Consolidated Database". The database works like POIs so you make a folder on your PC and unzip all the POIs (inc sped cams) to that folder then use POILoader to upload the lot in one go. Garmin POIs are in CSV format. Every time you change or update any POIs you need to upload the lot again. Make sure POILoader is set to MPH in the 3rd or 4th screen else the alerts will be at funny speeds. Once you've done that you'll find the POIs under Custom POIs on the unit and you'll get the Speed Camera alerts you want. |

thanks for the reply
are you saying any pois i install now will have to be reinstalled if i add any more at a later date . so any i nstall need to be kept in the one folder for as long as i have the unit
so if i subscribe to the data base i can get speed cams for any unit |

Yes. Basically POILoader complies all the files in one file called POI.GPI and then puts it on the Nuvi. If POI.GPI already exists it deletes it first so any POIs you already have loaded need to be reloaded each time.

Forgot to mention that. After an update it can take a while to get the first lock again... |

2? What are they called? Do you mean "Garmin" and "Garmin POILoader"?

Sorry. Another one what? You can only use POILoader to load them to Nuvi units.

Sounds like the Consolidated database. As i said above that's probably the best one to use or Garmins |

sorry to sound dumb. but with tomtom its straight forward. ive no doubt when i get used to this one it will be easy
i found a poi site for garmin
http://MaFt.co.uk/garmin/index.php?page=guides
found some software on here called camera manager, it had loads of icons on it for the cameras
in the data base it showed garmin other and garmin poi loader
each of them had about 3 different files
once these cameras are installed do they have warning sounds like tomtom does |

MaFt (who owns that site) is a PGPSW Team member here.
The instruction there are good.

Camera Manager downloads a speed camera database for you and then tweaks it to your liking. You can change the icons or use the ones from here and add Voice Alerts from here
Edit: Sorry but got to point out now that the mp3 alerts won't work with this model as it doesn't have the mp3 player)

The default sounds is a bong, bong tone. You can add voice sounds as per above.
I suggest getting used to loading the database as it is before you start with new icons, Camera Manager and Voices. POILoader might cause you ask a few questions itself.... |
