hi,
i accidentally connected to tomtom home the other day, and i got the virus otherwise known as 8.010:)
i tried searching for post on tom toms latest beta firmware 8.010, i can't seem to find any?
i tried it, hmmm, rubbish!!
it seemed to be a step backwards, oh what a surprise:(
could someone please point me to the thread showing the shortfalls:)
slow, tmc/rds is still cr@p, then after a while it locked up, and gets stuck in a 'boot up' , 'shut down' loop:(
i'm currently back to 7.221 from 7.481?
am i right in thinking there were mobile blue-tooth connection issues with that release 7.221?
any help would be great,
thanks for your time,
GaRy:( _________________ Tom Tom 720

I think THIS is the thread to which you were referring.
Whilst I'm not going to comment on most of what you said, I noted with interest that you said RDS/TMC with 8.010 is crap - most people only managed to get this working with any success using 8.010 _________________ Andy

Navcore 8.010 is actually better than 7.221 and 7.481, neither of which worked with RDS-TMC. The RDS-TMC now DOES work PROPERLY - I even used it today to avoid a genuine traffic problem, A4 Cromwell Road eastbound into London. It is as reliable as any other public traffic information. _________________ Dennis

I have found it takes longer to grab the RDS-TMC frequency following a software update, almost like the device stores the last known frequency that it received data from, an update will wipe this so it needs to locate the signal from the start, which takes longer.
Once it has tuned in and received data subsequent signal acquisition times are much shorter - I would suggest you return the device to 8,010 and try it for a few more days, it is worth it as RDS-TMC didn't work at all correctly with any Navcore 7 release in the UK - Mike |

gents,
could my problem have been caused by upgrading via tom tom home from 7.211 to 8.??
i was contemplating trying again, but utilising the manual update option, mentioned in an earlier post?
is that a good plan?
i value your opinions, i'm haven't that once bitten twice bitten feeling.
for some reason my backup on tom tom home didn't work last time, that was a pain!
cheers,
GaRy:) _________________ Tom Tom 720

Use TT Home which should update your device to 7,481 then on the second connection to Home you will get 8,010 - missing out this step could leave out certain files that must be required, the double download/ install has been put in place for a reason and very few forum users have been reporting issues with the version 8 code - Mike |

The recommendation among the majority in these forums is always to backup using Windows Explorer, not Home.
Apart from anything else which people may say, Home only allows you to keep one backup - so if you try and backup pre and post update, the latter will overwrite the former, thus defeating the whole point of backing up.
Simply create a folder and COPY across from your device (ie do not move).
My update to 8.010 was successfully accomplished via Home and I know that others have managed this way.
However, I seem to remember a couple of people saying that the update to 8.010 was troublesome, but a subsequent attempt to update was successful - so you might have just been unlucky with your download/update.
The manual update may be more prone to things going wrong if you're not entirely sure what you're doing. _________________ Andy

I have also reverted to 7.48 as I had an issue with 8.01 needing to be rebooted a lot and the hands free, even after a hard reset failing to connect. After reverting I have none of these issues now, as for the TMC, well I was traveling along the A543 from Wrexham today and it correctly reported the road closed at the correct point, and it seems to be no less efficient than 8.01, i get the correct delays and reports, the only snag if you like is that it loses the green circle more frequently than the ver8 did, however traveling through Wales a lot I tend to lose it anyway, so perhaps that isn't really significant for this area !! |

First of all make sure you have a backup taken using Windows Explorer BEFORE you do any of the following:
Connect to the PC and shut down TomTom Home, use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the device.
Delete all the loose files that are in the root directory of the TomTom, the root directory is the first level you will see when you click on the drive letter associated with your device.
DO NOT DELETE ANY FOLDERS OR FILES WITHIN FOLDERS.
Connect the device to the PC and start TomTom Home, it should now offer you the updates to the latest software for your device - Mike |
