Hi. Does anyone know if it is possible to hardwire a tomtom one v2 to a cars ignition so that the unit switches on with the ignition and off when the car is switched off? |

yeah, those were the days. That's a feature that was removed by TomTom after the problems with the 910 mount. _________________ Lutz

OK. But has anyone handy with a soldering iron managed to get over this since then? |

Well, if you really wanted to, you could make a circuit that looked at the ignition switch and closed a relay for three seconds. The contacts of that could be wired directly across the TomTom's power switch.
Not for the faint-hearted though. |

I use the good old fashioned GO 510/710 and it will turn on with the ignition but stays on when the ignition is turned off. Not too much of a problem as I need to remove it from the windscreen when I get out anyway. |

My trusty bulky TT710 switches on and off when connected to the ciggy lighter and engine is turned on and off. get a 10 sec countdown to cancel the switch off.
This should be a standard feature really, but like you say, I take mine out of the car as well. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

as lutz said though, they released a rubbish mount for the 910 whereby the connections would come apart far to easily so you would constantly get the 10 second count-down.
great that, instead of dealing with the problem (rubbish mount) they just hid the effects of it...

Well, I'm not sorry really, I'm rather glad that mine is OK.

There is an option that you need to tick on the 2nd page of Battery saving preferences _________________ Richard

my 910 mount used to switch on and off when hitting bumps etc ( a common fault I believe) but TT sent me an improved model mount and brill so far for nigh on 2 years (give or take ) |

I saw the bit about the battery preferences and thought that would help with what I want to do but I don't think my ONE V2 has it. Well.... I can't find it. |

It sounds as though yours is running with the 'fewer options' facility. The battery option is on page 6 of 7.
If you don't have 7 pages then try clicking on Change Preferences | Show more Options (on page 3 of 3). |

Or anyone with normal sized fingers, perfect eye sight, your talking keyhole surgery on the TT, and forget the warrenty if/when it goes wrong! Best option would be to get a 910! |

A modification like this could be done, but unless you are used to working with surface mount electronics and use of very fine tip soldering irons then leave this idea well alone.
Another thing to consider is the duration the button needs to be pressed, a couple of seconds is the norm, 7,481 needed a five second press and on some newer units the on/ off button doubles as the reset button (when you press it for 15 seconds) - so make sure whatever you wire in for the auto on/ off can accommodate the above - Mike |
