Pick someones brains please, when TT release the new v8 maps for my go720 i'll probibly update my western europe map to the new one! I'm concidering the full western and central europe version. my questions are:
1. Am i better off putting the new map onto a memory card?
2. If i decide to put new map onto the internal memory, when i select remove map is the current map saved on my pc or just deleted? (i've made a windows backup and will do it again before new map install)
3. Will new map extend my map share period?
4. Will i need to re-install my poi files if i get the central europe version as i'm guessing it will create new map directory on device/card?
5. If i back-up the Western Europe folder to DVD will that just back-up my maps and poi's?
6. If i put new maps on my memory card do i have to select that map to use or will the unit work it out being newer version, or is there a priority between mc/unit?
Many thanks in advance! Sorry for so many questions but never brought a map yet and want info before i shell out 70 quid!

mikewall wrote: | 1. Am i better off putting the new map onto a memory card? | This offers no real advantage.

(i've made a windows backup and will do it again before new map install) | Don't trust the Home software with anything in way of back ups, as long as you have Windows Explorer based copies of the files on your device you can easily recover the TomTom.
mikewall wrote: | 3. Will new map extend my map share period? | The original launch of MapShare stated that it will run for 12 months, so with a new map you will get a further 12 months MapShare with your new map, I doubt you will continue to use the old map though.

See the Tomtom site for specific details of whichever map you require, but on average they are £40 - £60. However, there's currently a sale on until the end of the month giving about £10 discount off each map.
New maps are normally published a couple of times per year. Whether it is worth updating your machine this frequently is a mater of significant debate! |
