What gps logger for travelling in Africa to record my route?

Hello,

I heading off on a round the world trip starting in Africa and would like to take a GPS logger with me so that i can record my route and where i have taken my photos.

I understand that some GPS devices like the BT-Q1000 have:
"Support button push manually to memorize your location immediately"
which would be useful as i could just turn it on when needed to record where i take photos, while conserving battery power.

I have also seen the Sony gps-cs1, which could be an ideal solution, because it uses 1 AA battery and the manual says it can be covered by textiles so I am hoping it can be kept in a rucksack pocket for example:

Can you compare/contrast these with any other suitable options - please advise

I use both the QStarz BT1000 and Zytec 289.

The BT1000 is reviewed here whilst the 289 is reviewed here.

I tend to favour the 1000 as it's more rugged (no gap caused by the SD card slot).

As they are both BT either can be used with a PDA etc to form a fuller GPS solution.
