Perhaps everybody in the world knew about this except me, so sorry if I'm wasting band width.

If you have NOT upgraded to Navcore 8.010 and your unit is docked and TTHome is running, you can navigate to TT+ Services, Weather, and get the weather for 5 days in the location you set (Home in my case). You are NOT warned that you have to set up a wireless connection first (as you'll be asked to do if you try the above with an undocked unit).

My understanding is the Nav8 firmware prevents the weather getting retrieved while docked. I don't know, just have 7.481 here.

Useful maybe but don't you have better weather forecasts available on the web?

cant believe you would condone installing software not paid for as tomtom meant it to be, isnt that erm... a form of piracy, exploiting a hack in their database Shocked

I fail to see how any of this thread can be construed as piracy, the two versions of Navcore software mentioned are available for free via TomTom Home and the TomTom Home application is free. If something is offered for free with no download restrictions how can this be piracy?

If TomTom make something available via Home with one version of Navcore and not available with a later release then it is their mistake that either a function has been omitted, or the original mistake which made the information available has been plugged - Mike

I agree as well.......

I am the LAST person in the world to condone the use of illegal software but, as Mike says, the facility is (or was) made available in TT's own FREE downloads.

We are all aware of the frustration we suffer with TT's sloppy coding regarding Home and firmware releases. It's just nice to have the shoe on the other foot, for a change. Wink

Isn't this all a red herring?

Weather isn't a paid-for "Plus" service, it's free.
And when talking about downloading Plus services, TomTom themselves say:
Quote:
Rates for retrieving data while roaming internationally are often charged at a higher rate. To avoid additional costs via your mobile operator we recommend downloading large files via TomTom HOME and not via your mobile phone.

So is this a "bug" at all?

On the previous firmware you could also access (if paid for) the Traffic data. You could download the data before setting out a lot quicker (and free) compared to GPRS.

I wonder why they stopped this working? My guess is when HD Traffic comes they want you to use their GPRS enabled power cord instead of the data going over the Internet from your PC.
