|
|
Evening all,
Am sure you've been asked this a thousand times... I have a Nuvi 660FM and just updated the software through the Garmin website and have downloaded and installed UK and Europe POI with POI loader. I choose the "Speed Zoned Complete" option for both.
However... driving around London and no speed cameras are being located at all. Clearly, something is wrong! The only thing I can think is that I use a Mac but I thought that Sat Navs worked fine with Macs? The software upload works OK.
Any help HUGELY welcome! I am driving to Europe with a group soon and I don't want to get there and find out my lovely Garmin doesn't warn me at all!
Thanks,
Kevin |

Hi and welcome.
First of all did you follow this thread for installing both the UK (MPH) and Europe (KPH) databases?
Secondly can you check you have Proximity Alerts switched ON for Custom POIs - Spanner, Settings, Proximity Points
Finally can you check the database is listed under Where To, Extras, Custom POIs
By the way, Mac should be fine - do you have the latest version of POILoader from here? |

Hey Paul,
Thanks for your email. I have followed your advice and think I have a fundamental flaw somewhere!
- I have the latest version of POILoader
- Mac seems to be fine (as in downloading no problem)
- Proximity alerts are switched on
- I tried to follow the thread you recommended - and it totally swamped me!
The problem seems to be that I can only use the latest file that the Nuvi has uploaded, either EU or UK. I tried uploading the EU files and then going into the Nuvi to rename poi.gpi to eupoi.gpi and that file was not on the Nuvi.
Am I doing something wrong?? Is there not a way to simply download the latest EU file and UK file and upload them both to the SD card or do you have to go about renaming files? And if so, how come I don't even have the file in my downloaded files?
Am sure there is a simple answer to this - and I hope there is!
Help :-) |

It should be in a folder called
[X]:Garmin\Poi (where X is the drive letter for your Nuvi / SD Card)

I'm afraid not. The UK file has to be uploaded to the unit with MPH set in the POILoader settings and the Europe file with KPH set in the settings. Otherwise one of the files will be set incorrectly and will alert at the wrong speed.
Essentially you do the same steps with both files making sure POILoader is set to MPH for the UK file and KPH for the Europe file. POILoader always generates the filename POI.GPI so once you have loaded one file you have to rename it to stop it being over written by the next file.

What do you mean? |

It's easy when you know how! Thank-you so much for your advice. I found the poi file on the Nuvi having uploaded the EU database and renamed it. Then uploaded the UK files and hey presto, they are all on the system.
Great forum, can't say how's helpful it's been. |
