I am going to be purchasing the fortuna clip-on gps bluetooth receiver, I plan to place it near my trunk (back window) but I am having trouble picking software, I have narrowed it down between Tom-Tom and Destinator.

Can anyone offer some advice?

Tell us more - where you live, what your driving habits are. Also check the Street Navigation comparison database - that may give you some idea which criteria are important for you.

I currently live in NC. i do minimal highway driving and my main concern is that it get me to somewhere so I don't have to mapquest, and when i get lost i dont want to have to pull over for directions anymore, I'd also really like a map of where i am and where i'm going. Sometimes i get confused and a map view of my position with street names visible would be REALLY nice. I also travel to NJ/MA/

I am in the usa and plan to stay on the east coast. Does this help?

In that case go with TomTom. It's slightly easier to use than Destinator, but it lacks cross-country capabilities. If you're just on the east coast then that's not a problem. Make sure you have a big enough storage card (256 MB or more recommended)

that''s right, but you will have this problem with both programs. Check our NA Street Navigation software Comparison database for more details.

I thought that destinator lets you make custom maps, so i could make one that was like a line surrounding the highway i would be driving on and then a buble at the end of the city i was driving too? (i would definately be planning ahead for a trip like this)

The Destinator data is cut into 5 pieces for the US. You can navigate within one piece but not between pieces. Same is true for trips between the US and Canada
