Not sure if this is a problem or not, my 520 takes too long to start.
I have to hold the on button in for about 15 seconds before it fires up, is this correct ???
All comments appreciated. _________________ TTGO730

Has it always taken that long, or just since installing new firmware or maps?
My 720 doesn't take that long. A 2 second hold and it springs to life about 2 seconds later. _________________ Anita

It has done it from day one.
EDIT: Goes straight off when pressed. _________________ TTGO730

I don't know then. I know some people reported that their x20 took longer to turn on after installing firmware 7.480 (I think).
I find it turns off too easily. If it's already on, just brushing a finger over the button when I put it on the mount will turn it off. _________________ Anita

I don't know if it makes any difference, but maybe mine's quicker because I've only got UK maps on the device. As I don't drive in Europe I've put the W&CE maps on a card that I keep separately.
I didn't think this was relevant as fluke9 has a 520, so UK only, and says it's always been slow to turn on. _________________ Anita

As Anita has mentioned this will be down to the software version on your devices, Navcore 7,480 and 7,481 both take considerably longer for the device to start up. What version of software have you got installed to the device (tap the sat strength meter lower right corner of the screen) this will bring up an information screen, on the right it will say the version number, if it is neither of the numbers I mentioned the device is probably faulty - Mike |

Try releasing the button after about 4/5 seconds (nothing on the screen @ this stage). That's how mine starts. (ver 7.480) |

I'm on 7.481, but it does it on 7.221 as well.
I had W&CE on a card, but that makes no difference witch ever map I use. _________________ TTGO730

It's been said before but my 520 started doing it after updating to 7.221 and it has not got any better with 7.480 and 7.481 sometimes mine even does a reset when I press the ON button. _________________ TomTom Go 950 Live.

My 520 takes a button press of 2 seconds and then I stay on a black screen for 2 seconds and then about 5 further seconds for the splash screen to appear. Itstays on for about 7 seconds and then I get the 'Navigate To' screen, because that's what I have set.
I'm on 7.481 and in fact it's quicker on that version than it was on 7.480 and just abot the same as it was out of the box, with 7.221.
I've also only got the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland map.
Personally, I don't think that it's too long, given that it is scanning for fixes to GPS Satellites at the same time and I generally fire it up while I am putting myu seat belt on and checking morrirs etc. _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky.
