They reckon once you've paid your £149, that's it, no more fees and you can track whatever you want on their map page.
It does look tempting. _________________ DashCam:

Well, there is the cost of the first top up, £5 and then it costs 10p (albeit cheap) for each request to update a location. It doesn't say how often you can ask it to send it's position but I guess seeing as it takes a few seconds for my phone to send a message I would guess that is a guide. Also doesn't say how you tell the device the report in as I bet that can take some time.
Suppose it is fine if you want to leave it in the car or whatever and then just start polling it like mad if your car vanishes, or the Missus is up to no good.
I recently renewed my car insurance and one of the options was 'Does the car have a tracker fitted?. It doesn't, but if I hid one of these in the car would that count as a yes? |

I think that cost is only applicable if you allow it to use your phone. As I understand it you can let it connect via the GPS signal which costs nothing ?
But I could be wrong. _________________ DashCam:

You can't connect to it via GPS, it receives a GPS signal for location and then transmits this via SMS. It has a built in GSM Phone Radio for this purpose.
You will have on-going costs for the PAYG SIM. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'm pretty sure that insurance companies have a list of approved tracking companies that they work with and they have to be 'permanent' trackers, not portable.
It may be worth a call to your provider to get their view though. _________________ Robert Brady |

Thanks for the info - I won't be getting one of them then. _________________ DashCam:

They all work this way, a company would have to be very brave to offer a product that transfers data via the GPRS network for free. At best, you might get one years worth built into the purchase cost but that would signigicantly up the price from £149
Just thought, imagine you were tracking your stolen car and the credit ran out.....you would be sprinting to the nearest Newsagents...ha ha |
