|
|
Just a quick question..
I'm on a mission at the moment to get my local area as up-to-date as poss on the (fabulous) PocketGPSWorld POI database.
Is it possible to add new categories? or is this something that copyright restricts?
For example. JJB Sports and Sports World stores are there for adding, but no JD Sports.
Could I start a category for JD or is it something JD Ltd would need to give permission for?? |

Of course. Just start a file, submit it and others will add to it...
The only copyright restriction is you don't download someone else's POI database and submit it as your own work. |

Just as a matter of interest, how long does it normally take between emailing you a new POI file and it appearing in the database?
I sent a small one on Saturday and it's not showing yet.
Just wondered if it takes a while, or whether I did something wrong? |

It takes a while as there are numerous submissions sent in. IIRC the corrections and submissions that are entered on the Submission Page are dealt with first. I don't think there is a 'normal time'.
It's a full time job being done in someone's free time. _________________ Richard

I think Richards answer is a fair asessment, In my own experience It can take a couple of days for a few submittals upto 5-6 weeks for a large file, and I think you have to take in account the amount of other submissions and holidays etc , but usually if you get an acknowledgement then you can rely on them going in eventually, I think they usually go in in order of reciept. |

Cool.
I was just worried cos it's my first attempt at a new category, and all the POIs you add via the map seem to go on within 24hrs.. but I suppose they're largely automated.
Cheers! |

Hi
As it's now been a month since I emailed the JD Sports file, can I assume it's not going to be added?? or is the backlog that large?
If it's not going to be added - is there any chance of feedback why?
If I did something wrong I'd like to correct it so I can contribute more.
thanx |

I can reassure you that it will be added, but there is a backlog and so it may take a little time. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Philomeena, it's probably my fault, I'm firing POI's at Oldie faster than he can dodge them _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

Same here, also as I have messed up some of the submissions it's probably taking longer to sort them out as well. sorry _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |
