Hi,
Congratulations on a brilliant POI database but could it be improved? Yesterday I downloaded the Toby Carvery listing (28 locations) & found my local one wasn't there. I started to add it as a POI on this site & went to the Toby web site for a little help. Here I found they have their own POI download which if it covers all their carvery's has in excess of 120 locations. Would it be a good idea to provide links to these sites rather than keeping a database of your own? |

Clearly, when we started, there were very few companies offering there own POIs. Even now there aren't that many.
Maintaining such links may be impractical but I'll see. I would add however that on some occasions our community compiled POI is very much more accurate than even the companies own. Often they use simple PostCode data to create the POI, we refine ours using actual location data which can make a big difference.
I appreciate that in cases such as this our database isn't perfect but for the other POIs for which no alternative exists ours is clearly the best option! _________________ Darren Griffin |

The problem with a lot of 'company POIs' is that they are Post Code generated. This can, and does, lead to glaring errors.
The reason that there are only 28 locations for Toby Carvery in our Database is because Users have submitted accurate locations for those that they have found/used. This gives a good degree of accuracy, which is not always found by Post Code alone. It also means that a full list of locations for that Category is slower to reach completion.
Some of the older POIs still have some inaccuracies in them due to the fact that a lot of them were a 'best guess' during the compilation. These are steadily being weeded out. _________________ Richard

Further to my suggestion with regard to the Toby Carvery company database. I've put it on my GPS enabled phone & doesn't work!! So your the pocketgpsworld info is much more useful. |

However there isn't a lot of detail in the POI, and no telephone numbers.
With only Toby Carvery in the name of the bulk of the locations, it doesn't help much if you want to search by Town. _________________ Richard
