Maybe.......

Hoping this hasnt been discussed before as I havnt been around for some time. Finally given in and downloaded the PGW database and going to give it another try!

Anyways, while setting up Text to speech for the alerts I was getting bored typing them all in.

I have noticed that if you rename the file and the bitmap to the text you want to read out and select the second option for warning sound on the TT unit it will read out your file name.

So, I have changed all the file names to something similar too:

Warning!_Gatso_Ahead!_30_miles_per_hour.bmp and
Warning!_Gatso_Ahead!_30_miles_per_hour.ov2

Doing a route demo this works.

REALLY REALLY sorry if this has been discussed before but i see its not on the FAQ.

Blimey, what hard work! As my old granny used to say, If something's hard work, it's not worth doing. Good luck for doing it all again when the database is updated every couple of weeks! (I am right in thinking you'll be renaming the new files each time?) Laughing

You didn't wonder about using the ogg file method then? - Human voice, optional sirens, speed limit? Another 'improvement' over TomTom in the last 20 months.

Yes, hard work, but Im not using the zoned files, just the ones split to Gatso/Specs etc.

Maybe an idea for you guys to change the file names though..........

And, to be honest, just bored and messing with them at the monent.

Just browsing the map I can see that they are a huge improvement over the ones I used last time (Sept 2006). Probably stick to these now me thinks.

Just imagine the value of the speed zoned ones though. Edit I've just noticed you ARE using a speed in the filename - what do you mean you're not using the speed zoned ones? Do all your fixed cameras tell you there's a 30mph camera coming up Shocked ?

Change everybody's file names just for you?

Yes I spotted that too. I'm confused....
Unless you ARE using the speed zoned version of the download, you won't be able to name them like you've done and get the correct speed limit announced.

Also, as Dennis says, you'll have to do your naming trick twice a month, whereas if you type in your alerts or use the pre-prepared audio files from here (my latest "Simon" ones might be to your taste) and then take a backup copy of the MapSettings.cfg file for safety in case they ever get lost, then you'll only have to do it once

I was just using that as an example, sorry for confusion!

I was messing with the different download options to see which one I thought would suit me and seeing what could be done with them.

I will have a look at the OGG files, didnt see them before. They look good.

I can see that people have spent an awful lot of time developing the OGG files.

A simple batch file will take care of the renaming, but given that the OGGs are available, ...
