Does your nuvi do this???

Hi,

I am new to the site and have got a question about my nuvi. I updated to NT 2008 (uk and ireland installed) last month but since then when i have done city searches its been bringing up some weird stuff! If i type in Nottingham it brings up our nottingham and Nottingham Road in South Africa 8000 miles away, also York it brings up York in yorkshire and also york in Seirra Leone. These places are thousands of miles away and i dont have these maps installed. It also brings up places in europe and it thinks it can route to all the afore mentioned places. Confused

Any help would be great.

It was the city navigator europe NT 2008 update disk but as mine is a nuvi 200 aswell i put UK and Ireland on. I have reinstalled firmware and maps and its still doing it. I updated to firmware 4.10 last night to no resolution. Example:

Where To , Cities, York

York, N.YORKS 36.8 Miles
York, SLE 3181 Miles (Sierra Leone!?)
Yorkletts, Kent 174.5 Miles
Yorkley, Glos 127.1 Miles

before it wouldnt have brought up any of the last 3

Funny mines always given distances, mine is the non widescreen model though i dont see why that would make any difference. Thanks for comparing anyway it looks like its just one of those things i guess. At least the update seems to have stopped it taking me down single track "roads".

Could this be something to do with the base map installed on the unit?

I noticed on my 660 (upgraded to 2008 Europe) that opening the basemap file in GPSMapEdit (tool for generating overlays for GARMIN GPS) showed major roads and towns in Africa . As I only did this after the upgrade to 2008NT Europe I don't know if this was there with V9.

I have just done: Where To/Cities and entered PORT then Done.

I have a list of quite a few cities (several screens) including for example

Port Elizabeth Eastern Cape 6247 miles

Looking at file GBMAPBMAP.IMG it's 6604Kb but no creation date info

It could be something to do with the base map.

If i browse the map on the unit i have major roads for europe, africa and the middle east, i do not recall having any of these before. That file you mentioned is also the same on mine, 6604Kb and no dates at all.
